Soooo it's been incredibly quiet here...so quiet I don't think we've talked since we were pulling our hair out over Nano. I'm not even sure who checks this anymore, but I thought I'd poke my nose in and see what's going on. *goes back to twiddling thumbs*

Hi guys!!! I'm so sorry, my stupid RSS thing isn't working either... argh technology!
How is everyone? Anyone been writing anything exciting? I have been incredibly lazy, but I'm hoping 2015 is the year for change. I've decided to bite the bullet and enrolled to go back to study again because I HATE MY JOB and thought it was about time I did something to fix that. So YAY for productivity... I hope!

Hi Jules! Ooo, school, that's so exciting! When do classes start? How long do you have left? Change is good! Hard, but good.
Speaking of Change in 2015: I'm moving to Colorado in early June so Hubby Nick can get his degree in archaeology. Which means I have to either get a job there or get a remote job. I'm really worried that's going to be a hard process and I won't have any money and it'll be awful, but! I'm not going to give up!
I'm still working on revisions for my novel. I have to change a LOT of things. It's a little overwhelming. Gotta keep at it, though!
I'm going to try to develop the habit of coming over here to check on the forums at least once a week. We can be active, I know it!

Jules, that's awesome that you're going back to school! Congrats on taking that step! I hope you'll get a job you really love when you're done.
Katy: wow, that is a big move! I've only been to Colorado once, but I really liked it the time I was there. And at least you have a few months before June to get a job lined up and prepare for the move! I don't think a cross-country move (it is almost cross-country for you, right?) is ever easy, but at least you have a chance to anticipate it.
Since Nano was such a failure for me, I'm still working on the time travel novel. I'm so scared for when I get to the revisions part for this this book: there are so many historical inaccuracies because whatever I don't know, I'm pretty much making up.
And yes! We can totally be active again! (I need all the motivation I can get...)

I've done almost nothing, HAHAHA, but! I did finish revisions on chapter 1, which I think I'm going to post here. Not under the concrit section, though... Mostly I just want internet hugs XP
Maybe this'll help me get to revisions on chapter 2!

Oooh!!! It's about time someone posted some of their work! You're brave to be the first, and I'll have to meander over to that thread to have a little look.
Recently, I did...a thing. You know how I've been very outspoken about my reluctance to use Wattpad? Yeah, well, I had the realization over the last couple weeks that even though I spent years pouring my heart into Every Missing Piece, it's just never going to be published...because I don't want it to be. The book I'm working on now, along with other ideas I have kicking around in my head, are what I'd rather be known for if I'm ever lucky enough to be published. So since I don't have to worry about querying it anymore, I decided to bite the bullet, start posting it on Wattpad, and try to get some fans. But ugggghhh I forgot how much work it is to promote stuff on that site!
Enough about that, though. Time for happier things! *skips off to read that first chapter*

Oh hey, I've heard about Wattpad! How is it? Other than promotionally difficult, lol. Do you have any fans yet? Can I help?? Also, I've had that feeling with books too. The series I'm working on now is actually the third series I've seriously worked on with an eye toward publication, but the other two were just...eh. They weren't what I wanted to be known for. It's an interesting realization, isn't it?? I'm really impressed you were able to come to terms with it. That's a hard choice! But I'm sure your new project will be absolutely wonderful  Thanks again for the readthrough! Do you want to post your Wattpad thing here so I can return the favor?? |

Wattpad is interesting, and I didn't really do my research when I first joined, so I'm only just realizing some of its nuances. What surprised me the most is that even though it's set up like a set for writers, nearly all of their traffic (I think 80%?) comes from readers, which explains a lot of questions I had about how certain things on there become popular. I actually have a decent number of followers from when I was active a few years back (not quite sure why they were following me, but whatever), although the vast majority of them also haven't been active in a long time. It kind of feels like starting over. I hope I'm making the right choice to pursue other projects! I'm kind of in a weird state right now: I feel so ambivalent regarding where EMP goes, but it's also still my baby and I want everyone to love it. No matter what, sticking with the same idea for so long has shown me that I'm actually making some progress as a writer. Earlier this week, I dug up my first scribblings for it and had a good laugh at how many adverbs I threw everywhere. And no problem regarding the read-through! I enjoyed it! Maybe I will post some of my thing...but I'm feeling too lazy to format for the forum now, and I use a LOT of italics as a stylistic thing. Could I leave the Wattpad link? I think what you've done is a really brave thing, especially since you've been working on it for so long. And now lots of other people can enjoy your wonderful work! I didn't realise that readers make up most of the traffic on Wattpad... not what I expected at all, but great for us I guess! Looks like you have a heap of fans already, and well deserved! Thanks so much, Jules! Although honestly, I care a million times more about what my lovely flaming marshmallows think of it than any rando on Wattpad. (I mean, I'm so grateful to any readers I can get, but I really trust your opinions.)
